Position Title:                         Host

Reports to:                              Support Manager

 

Position Summary:               

Graciously greets guests upon arrival, escorts them to their table, provides menus to them once seated. Manages special seating requests of guests consistent with table availability. Relays messages to servers and bus persons as appropriate. Assists with the duties of servers and bus persons as needed to maintain service effectiveness and efficiency.

 

Responsibilities:          

  • Graciously greets guests upon their arrival and escorts them to a table, balancing the customer flow among the service stations, taking into account requests for a particular table or server, depending on availability.
  • Manages waitlist, accurately estimating and communicating wait time to guests.
  • Assists with seating as appropriate and, once seated, provides menus to guests.
  • Oversees the general flow of the dining room during the meal service period, relaying information to service personnel, making adjustments when and where necessary.
  • Assists with the duties of servers and bus persons, such as securing a food or beverage item for a patron, resetting a table for reuse, etc., as the customer traffic flow allows, to ensure the maintenance of foodservice effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Assists with stocking work stations, removing, and resetting soiled dishes and silverware from table at conclusion of each course, and cleaning and resetting vacated tables.

 

Prerequisites:

Education:

  • High school graduate or equivalent desired.
  • Must be able to communicate and understand the primary language(s) of the work location, and understand the primary language(s) of the guests who typically visit the work location.
  • Must be able to perform simple mathematical calculations.

Experience:           

  • Varies, depending on the type of restaurant and level of service required.
  • A knowledge of the sequence of service and dining room procedures.

Physical:

  • Requires bending, climbing, reaching
  • Must have the ability to stand for periods of 4-6 hours
  • Must be able to exert fast-paced mobility for periods of up to five hours in length.
